MY DESIGN PHILOSOPHY

My southern roots bred an innate hospitality in me, that led me on a path of creating welcoming, comfortable, and beautiful spaces whenever possible. I love entertaining and making people feel at home, whether it’s for a retail space, event, or simply living at home.

While I like to avoid the term “eclectic,” I admittedly draw from various periods and types of design, leaning towards a unique mix of Hollywood Regency, Spanish Revival, and Traditional, with nods to Bohemian and East Asian designs.

I eschew minimalism in practice, but strive for its ideals.

I believe good design should be informed by its surroundings and architecture.

I know you can never be happy in a space that isn’t comfortable—knowing that “comfortable” can mean different things for different people.

A bit of humor is key in any space.

All these traits contribute to my distinct design aesthetic that puts people first, with the steadfast concept of entertaining in the back of my mind.

ALL ABOUT MATTHEW

I am a Dallas-based designer, stylist, visual merchandiser, style and space planning expert, and general lover of all things decorative and beautiful (oh, and dogs). Originally from Texas, I embody inescapable southern hospitality, but somehow missed out on that Texan accent. I moved to Chicago for school, and after a brief stint in East Asian Studies (I’ve always admired the culture and history of East Asia), I transitioned to an arts school, majoring in Art & Design. I started my career in fashion-based visual merchandising, then moved on to a party planning company in North Chicago. From there I found my passion as an in-home stylist and visual merchandiser for an international furnishings company, which eventually moved me to Los Angeles. I spent the 6 years at a U.S.-based furniture manufacturer / retailer, both in sales and as a regional visual manager for their West Coast operations. I now work with a luxury Italian furniture company, and reside in Dallas, TX with my wonderful husband Brian.
